Stop signs are traffic signs used to indicate that drivers must come to a complete halt before proceeding further. They are typically red and octagonal.

In Australia, the Australian Standard AS 1742.2 specifies the design and usage of stop signs.

Prohibition Signs

Stop Signs are more exact than Prohibition Signs, where a particular activity is prohibited.

Prohibition Signs follow Australian Standard 1319 and have a red circle with a slash suggesting a particular activity is prohibited.
